COMMUNITY OF BELIEVERS

We believe every member is gifted by the Holy Spirit to build up the church. Mambrino is devoted to helping each member find their place of ministry so that the body is built up in love. Expect to see our elders leading and the people doing the ministry. Check out Ephesians 4:10-16; 1 Corinthians 12:4-7.

GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

Since the Great Commission is one of our core values, we want to advance the gospel to the ends of the earth and support missionaries and pastors who do the same. The main avenue of cooperation is through the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. We also encourage our members to support church-sent missionaries and indigenous pastors. When there is a need, we send teams to work alongside these missionaries and pastors.

FELLOWSHIP

We love each other and that means we get together a lot. Plan on coming early and staying late so you can get to know other church members. We encourage all our members to practice hospitality by meeting together for fellowship in homes, at coffee shops, parks, the lake, and any where else we can get together! We celebrate the Lord's Supper and fellowship together on the last Sunday of every month. Those months that have five Sundays (usually 3-4 months a year) we have a large fellowship meal where everyone brings a large side dish or dessert to share.

SMALL GROUPS

There are two main avenues for you to study the Bible and apply it to your life in fellowship with others. We have Sunday school groups that meet year round at 9:45 am each Sunday. We also offer bible studies for men and women throughout the week. Talk to an elder for more information about getting into a small group.

NEW MEMBERS' CLASS

We practice meaningful church membership. This means membership is a responsibility and a blessing. In order to help you determine if this is the best church for you and your family, we offer two new members' classes that cover the basics of who we are as a church, what we believe, and what we expect from our members. After completing the classes, every new member or family meets up with an elder to pray together and determine the best ways to start serving and building up the church. Talk to an elder about when the next class will meet. Most classes meet on Sunday afternoons from 3-5 pm.

OUR HISTORY

Hood County Texas Genealogical Society

Information is lacking as to who conducted the first religious services in the area, but during the year 1870 a Baptist Church was organized in what was called Elm Flat, near the place where the power plant is now located on Lake Granbury. Since Elder J.N. Chandler is credited with helping to start every Baptist church in Hood County between the Civil War and 1900, it is a safe guess that he had a part in it. Evidence indicates that the new church was called Shady Grove Baptist Church from the beginning. In 1885 this church was moved to the Ras Umphress place near the junction of F.M. 2425 and Mitchell Bend Road, and a small house was erected as a meeting place.
